What does this partnership mean? Are you rebranding to Habyt or is it just sharing backend systems and properties to rent? Curious to understand :)

Common is not rebranding. We will continue operating more or less independently with some added benefits of global reach to both RE partners and residents.

Great post Brad. Would love to see a post on your thoughts abt the technology opportunities in Coliving/rental housing industries, where the gaps currently lie, etc

Thanks! I think there are big / meaningful technology opportunities in rental housing writ large. Coliving as a sector is still probably too small to justify serious standalone technology investment - most operators would be better served by modifying existing solutions (e.g., Common uses a modified version of Entrata as its PMS) rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

I think data-driven site evaluation tools are a big opportunity and could be a trojan horse into building a new PMS (which is probably too meaty to attack directly). Weirdly I also think it's time for a new generation of apartment listing / discovery sites which haven't really changed in the past decade. Beyond that it's mostly point solutions which will might be very useful but won't be huge companies in their own right.

Thanks for the prompt and meaningful response. All points are interesting.

I’m the founder of www.thehousemonk.com - We are doing for Asia what Yardi and Entrata have done for the US. Would love to talk sometime and get your feedback on our business!
